Why 14–19?
Skills Space focuses on 14–19 year-olds because at this age students are considering the routes their working lives may take. This is also the point at which they are exposed to the world of work through work experience, Enterprise, WRL/WRE/Education for Work/Learning for Life and Work, PSHE/PSD/PSE/PDMU and Citizenship and through some GCSE, Standard Grade, A level, Higher and vocational courses.
Why Cadbury?
Cadbury is very well known for its commitment to social and community issues, and it supports education through a number of initiatives. Skills Space provides an opportunity for the company to extend this involvement through the provision of an educational website for 14–19 year olds to support their academic work and help prepare them for the world of work.
Since the beginning of the twentieth century Cadbury has been a market leader in chocolate production. Cadbury provides a rich context from which to learn about business, design and technological processes, practices and commercial realities. Cadbury products will be familiar to most people living in the UK, as well as globally, and students may know a little about the business behind this brand, e.g. the marketing of Cadbury products. Skills Space challenges students to explore the world of business and manufacture and relate it to their own learning.
Objectives
The objectives for the Skills Space website are to:
- help prepare young people for the world of work
- raise young people’s awareness about how what they learn in the classroom can be applied in the world of work
- bring the world of work to life through a wealth of information based on Cadbury as a business with input from Cadbury employees
