A typical working day
A typical day might involve writing resource materials that we’re going to be giving out, meeting with the onsite caterers to look at some of the healthy options in our staff canteen or tackling the paper work side of things – budgets or putting together proposals for the programme’s future.
Skills and qualifications
I came into the company as a graduate trainee, so I’ve worked in a number of different departments and I got a good range of experiences across the business. I’ve got various different qualifications in things like training and IT.
What do you like about your job?
I like the variety. I like the way that I work closely with all sorts of different people across the organisation. I like the autonomy I have to design the programme and to think of new creative ideas to make the programme fresh.
What training have you had?
The company is very supportive. We all have a personal training plan, so I review my training with my line manager at least twice a year formally, as well as ongoing when we meet up. So yes, they’re certainly happy to train me in whatever things are relevant.
What is your career plan?
I enjoy this particular role, so I’m not in a rush to move out of it. However, there are quite a lot of things I can do to enhance this role at the moment. I’d like to find out more a bit about things like becoming a qualified personal trainer, or gain a few more skills in the area of nutrition. So I think it would be on-the-job training in my current role that I’m looking for at the moment.
Why this company?
The main thing for me was to work for a company that I felt was socially responsible. I wanted to work for someone who was good to their employees, good to the local community – our neighbours – and to our suppliers, so that was the main deciding factor. I do love the products as well, which helps!
