Ghana in close-up
Ghana has 23 million people, compared to 60 million in the UK. Its area is about the same as the UK. Take a look at this map.
- Accra is the capital city.
- Lake Volta is a huge artificial lake. It was made by building a dam on the River Volta, to generate electricity.
- Ghana is quite low and flat. The pale green on the map shows the higher parts.
- It is in the tropics, so overall it is quite hot. Most of the south gets a lot of rain, but the north is dry. However, like most countries, Ghana is influenced by a seasonal change in temperatures.
- Ghana has hundreds of small rural villages.
