You have seen some of the ways that mechanisms, computer control, electronic sensors and actuators, and pneumatics are used in the manufacture of Cadbury chocolate products.
These technologies are not just used in the manufacturing industry. In fact all of these technologies, often in rather different forms, can be found in the world around you.
For each product shown below, think about the key control technologies that are in use.
Extension activity
Think about one of the sensors you’ve identified in the activity above. Draw a simple block diagram, using the elements shown below, to explain how the system might control an output in response to a signal from the sensor.
Describe clearly the signal from the product that is being sensed and the kind of sensor that might be used. Explain what kind of signal the control system might produce and the actuator that needs to be controlled.
