introduction
There are many reasons why companies invest in product development. Customer tastes and consumer trends change all the time and in order to survive, businesses must adapt their products and introduce new ones to suit these changing demands.
Product development is about designing and developing new products and modifying or upgrading existing products.
Product development is a hugely important aspect of business at Cadbury, and there is a large team of people constantly working on improving products and coming up with ideas for new ones.
Product development at Cadbury involves many stages:
- The initial idea!
- The design of the product
- Choosing ingredients
- Creating prototypes, testing and testing again!
- Costings, budgets – what plant and machinery do we need to make the new product?
- Choosing suppliers for the product
- Production
- Finally – product launch!
Not all new product ideas are followed through and not all products will go through all stages. At any stage, the product may be dropped or the idea changed.
